Vancouver Leisure Society Lawn Bowling is an annual event donating all net proceeds to benefit Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Since its inception in 2009, the event has raised over $45,000 to fund Cystic Fibrosis research, care for those living with the disease, and global education.
The event was inspired by a close friend, Eva Markvoort, who spent a lifetime battling Cystic Fibrosis, but made it her life’s work helping search for a cure. On 23 October 2007, Eva underwent a double lung transplant. With her new lungs she was given a new lease on life and after her recovery she endeavored to make people more aware of CF by blogging about her life. Eva’s blog resonated with people around the world and she garnered a huge following of new friends and supporters.
It was an honour to enjoy the first year of the event alongside Eva, who brought an aura of excitement, positivity and above all, love. Not long after that summer, Eva’s body suddenly began rejecting her new lungs. Sadly, Eva lost her fight with Cystic Fibrosis on 27 March 2010. She was 25 years old. Eva was a truly magical person and her legacy continues to grow stronger by the day. We are proud to be part of this legacy, and our event will continue to champion what Eva did: bringing people together to enjoy life to its fullest, and helping find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
Over four Thursday evenings in July, teams will gather on the lawns of Granville Park Lawn Bowling Club and compete for the most funds raised through donation. We invite you to join us in our efforts.
Love,
The Vancouver Leisure Society
